¿Qué es el cáncer de pulmón?

El cáncer de pulmón es el segundo tipo de cáncer más prevalente en España en varones y la primera causa de muerte por cáncer. El factor de riesgo más importante asociado al desarrollo tumoral es el tabaquismo, atribuible a un 85-90 % de los casos; aunque actualmente estas estadísticas están descendiendo, probablemente debido a la reducción de este hábito asociado. Asimismo, el riesgo varía en función del número de cigarrillos diarios y disminuye al abandonar este hábito.

Existen diferentes tipos de cáncer de pulmón en función de las líneas celulares afectadas. Según estas, se producen evoluciones naturales y respuestas diferentes al tratamiento, por lo que el diagnóstico histopatológico correcto es fundamental. En los últimos años, el de mayor incidencia es el adenocarcinoma.

Las causas del cáncer pulmonar están centradas en la exposición a sustancias cancerígenas y promotores tumorales fundamentalmente inhalados al fumar cigarrillos u otras sustancias como el asbesto o el gas radón.

El 15 % de los cánceres afectan a los no fumadores y en mayor parte a mujeres. La exposición a radiaciones es otra causa ambiental relacionada con el cáncer de pulmón, en especial en fumadores tratados con radioterapia a nivel torácico. 

Recomendaciones nutricionales y hábitos saludables

Alimentación

ACONSEJABLE

  • Consume abundantes líquidos y sigue una dieta variada y rica en vegetales y frutas. Esta se han asociado a una disminución del riesgo de este tipo de cancer por su contenido en vitaminas y antioxidantes. Intenta comer los colores del arco iris, cuanto más variados sean los colores de tus frutas y verduras, más completa será tu dieta. Evita las harinas blancas refinadas. Sustitúyelas por harinas integrales ecológicas que te aportarán fibra y más nutrientes.
  • Evita el azúcar blanco o reduce al mínimo su consumo. Utiliza, preferentemente, endulzantes naturales como la canela, estevia o mieles ecológicas.
  • En vez de hacer grandes comidas, se recomienda hacer cinco o seis tomas al día.
  • Bebe más de 2 litros de agua al día, sobre todo los días en que se te administre el tratamiento. Si te cansa el agua, dispones de infusiones para aumentar tu ingesta hídrica. Esto te ayudará en tu balance hídrico.
  • Se recomienda la complementación del tratamiento con un estabilizador emocional que te ayudará a relajarte y dormir mejor.
  • También puedes tomar suplementos nutricionales que te ayuden a proteger y a favorecer la actividad de tu microbiota y evitar el estreñimiento asociado al tratamiento.

NO ACONSEJABLE

  • Alimentos muy calientes, fritos, picantes, muy condimentados y flatulentos.
  • Bebidas estimulantes y con gas.
  • Tabaco y alcohol.
  • Productos procesados ricos en azúcares añadidos, aditivos y colorantes artificiales como bollería industrial, dulces, cereales refinados, tostadas, galletas…
  • El consumo de grasas trans presentes en productos procesados como margarinas, frituras, aceites refinados…
  • Carne roja y procesada como salchichas, embutidos…
  • Los carbohidratos de absorción rápida que elevan la glucosa en la sangre como los dulces, el azúcar, la fructosa, las harinas refinadas (pan blanco, pan de molde, galletas, bizcochos…).

Higiene bucal

ACONSEJABLE

  • Realiza un cepillado de dientes suave y enjuágate con agua y bicarbonato después de cada comida.
  • Se recomienda la toma de suplementos que ayuden a prevenir infecciones oportunistas que generan mucositis.
  • Visita al dentista antes de empezar el tratamiento.

NO ACONSEJABLE

  • Extracciones dentales y/o cualquier tipo de manipulación dental (consulte antes a su médico).

Cuidados de la piel

ACONSEJABLE

  • Aplícate lociones hidratantes, a poder ser naturales, libres de carbómeros, DEA, derivados petroquímicos, parabenos, perfumes sintéticos, ftalatos, tintes sintéticos y sulfatos.
  • Protégete de las radiaciones solares. No te expongas al sol entre las 12 y las 6 de la tarde. Utiliza gafas de sol, gorros o sombreros, sombrillas, etc. Utiliza cremas de protección total. Los labios son una zona especialmente sensible, cuídalos y nútrelos con regularidad.

NO ACONSEJABLE

  • Lesiones de la piel (afeitado con maquinillas de cuchilla).
  • Exposiciones directas al sol.

Cuidados del cabello

ACONSEJABLE

  • Utiliza un champú neutro y peines con púas gruesas y separadas.
  • Lávate el cabello con agua templada, realizando fricciones suaves. Sécalo al aire, sin utilizar secador.
  • Utiliza tintes vegetales sin amoniaco.

NO ACONSEJABLE

  • Secador de pelo con aire muy caliente.
