What is linoleic acid?

Linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid. Our bodies cannot make it, so we need to get it from food. It is a structural component of cell membranes and of the lipids that form the skin's outer layer, and, like other fats, it is a source of energy.

Linoleic acid contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 10 g).

Foods that contain linoleic acid

Vegetable oils such as sunflower oil, nuts, seeds, poultry and eggs are the main sources.

Mushrooms and linoleic acid

Many mushrooms contain small amounts of linoleic acid as part of their natural fat profile, including Shiitake, Oyster Mushroom, Sun Mushroom, Reishi and Maitake. Mushrooms also provide fibre, B vitamins and minerals such as potassium and selenium.

Linoleic acid in skincare

Plant oils rich in linoleic acid, such as argan oil, are widely used in cosmetics to help keep skin feeling soft and moisturised. Our Mico-Repair serum is formulated with argan oil.

Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
