Applying fungal biotechnology research to health care

Fungal compounds increase and activate immune cells

Several studies indicate that the use of beta-glucans and other compounds from mushroom extracts can increase the number and activity of T-lymphocytes.

Fungal compounds stimulate intracellular reactions

Numerous fungal compounds are considered biological response modifiers (BRMs), which stimulate the immune system increasing intracellular reactions thus activating the body’s natural defenses (Borchers et al. 2008; Wasser 2010).
